| Customer Rides Dennis & Linda LaDrew's '55 Chevy |

This is Dennis and Linda LaDrew's 1955 Chevy. In the fall/spring of 1992/1993 , they restored a 1956 Chevy Belair two Door Sedan. Some
friends of theirs invited Linda and Dennis to cruise along with them to something called Rod
and Custom's Americruise in Springfield Missouri. During the first day of the event
, Linda found this black 1955, 210 two door sedan with a for sale sign on it.
She spent most of the day looking the car over.
Day two...Linda was still looking over the '55 when she finally said, "I really like this car".
The car had 11,300 miles since the restore. Linda said "can't we get this and drive it till the '56
is done then sell it?" Dennis agreed. The '56 was completed and is long gone to
Texas.
The '55 has been from St Louis to Florida three times, on most of the
Americruises. They put almost 38,000 mile on the '56 before it departed. They have
seen a submarine in the state Oklahoma, the United States Air Force Museum
in the state of Ohio, and every state along Route 66.
Along the way to logging the 80,000 miles on the '55, they have met some very
wonderful people. To the guy who walked up to Dennis at a gas station in Hillsboro, MO, and gave him a Chevy Bowtie key chain he had made while practicing programming...He is
honored to have it.
The '55 now has a 330 horse/350 crate motor, a 700R4 over drive, Vintage Air and gets 21 to 23 MPG hwy.
Thank you Dennis and Linda for showing us your beautiful ride!

April's trivia question: What is the GM Part Number for
the
spare tire cover on the 2006 Pontiac Solstice? Answer: This question is tricky... the
answer
is NONE. The Solstice does not come with a spare tire. (therefore, no
tire
cover) It does come with a small air compressor (25801712) and a can of
tire
sealant (22732105).

RMS News

Lately, GM has been discontinuing many of the needed parts we are all looking for; especially on "older vehicles". We have been hearing, from many of you, that your local dealerships will not even look up the part numbers for vehicles that fall outside the typical extended warranty periods. This is a frightening outlook for anyone driving a 2004 or "older" vehicle. We want to let you know that we have "ways" to look up and, more importantly, find those parts that the parts counter guy won't! We are striving to fulfill your orders
for many of the Rides you are keeping and if you do not see the part you are looking for on our website; shoot us an e-mail and let us do the leg work. - John Ruffo, Executive Director
P.S., RMS is now a distributor for Speed Tech Performance and Baer Brake Systems.

Vacation
Checklist
|
Nobody
wants a road trip spoiled by car trouble! Just a little pre-trip planning goes
a long way toward ensuring a fun and safe trip for the entire family.
Before
leaving on a road trip, be sure to:
-
Check
your belts, hoses, brakes, lights, windshield washer fluid and wiper blades.
- Check the function of all the exterior
lights, including headlamps, tail lamps, turn signals and brake lamps.
- Check
all major fluids, including engine oil, power-steering fluid, brake fluid,
transmission fluid, and antifreeze/coolant.
-
Make
sure your trunk has a jack, lug wrench and other tools you'll need to change a
tire.
-
Get
a good roadside tool set with a pair of mechanics gloves.
- Check
tire pressure and ware indicators of all tires, including the spare. Not only will this help optimize fuel
economy, but bald spots and uneven wear can be early signs that could
potentially cause tire problems on a road trip.
- Make
sure you have a working flashlight with extra batteries, emergency reflectors
or emergency flares, fire extinguisher, sunglasses and a first aid-kit.
- Carry
an extra bottle of water and some energy bars (per person) in case you get
stranded away from town.
- Carry
a spare set of vehicle keys.
- Plan
your route and leave a copy of your itinerary with a relative or neighbor.
- Bring
any special medications and prescription information.
- Bring
a cellular phone or a sign that tells passersby to "Call Police" in case of
trouble.
- Have
any repairs or vehicle maintenance performed before the trip-see your vehicle's
owner's manual for vehicle maintenance schedules.
Remember
that taking ten minutes to look over your vehicle now, can save you hours or
even days should something go wrong on the road. And the last place we want to spend our
vacation is in a mechanic's waiting room. |
